Message of the Organizing Committee
Mount Ararat has attracted the attention of scientists from various disciplines, artists and travelers since ancient times. Mount Ararat, the height of which is 5137 meters, is an important symbol in Anatolia and the Middle East with its religious, folkloric, and historical echoes. The mountain, which is referred as "r-r-t" in the Bible (Old Testament), later took the name Ararat. In fact, “r-r-t” is the Hebrew of Urartu, who established a very powerful kingdom in Eastern Anatolia, Transcaucasia and Northwest Iran between the 9th and 7th centuries BC.
It is believed by both many scientists and theologians that Noah's Ark landed on Mount Ararat after the Great Flood. Similarly, both religious and non-religious sources refer to Mount Ararat as one the landing locations of the Noah’s Ark.
There are many poems, stories, proverbs, and legends in Turkish Folk Literature on this subject. Throughout history, Mount Ararat has inspired civilizations established in Eastern Anatolia, Caucasia, Nakhchivan and Northwest Iran. Mount Ararat, which is an important symbol and source of wealth of Anatolia and the Turkish World, is also a significant example of intangible cultural heritage.
While giving priority to Mount Ararat and its surroundings, the symposium also accepts papers discussing comprehensively the region's history, archeology, art history, geography, geology, economy, tourism, ethnography, language and literature, theology, sports, natural environment, cultural assets, traditional culinary culture and food. The 7^th International Symposium on Mount Ararat and Noah's Ark is going to be held on 15-16 October 2026 at Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen University.
The 7^th International Symposium on Mount Ararat and Noah's Ark with its multinational scientific committee will be hosted by Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen University on October 15-16, 2026 and there will be participants from many different countries. We will be delighted with your participation to the symposium. The papers (abstracts and full texts) sent by researchers will be meticulously reviewed by the editors. Following the symposium, which is to be held face-to-face, certificates will be presented to the participants. The papers presented at the symposium will be published in the proceedings book with an e-ISBN. Symposium languages are Turkish and English.
